Matt “Smoker” Robinson attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on a Navy ROTC scholarship. Matt earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautics and Astronautics from MIT in 1994 and, on the same day, was commissioned as an Ensign in the US Navy. He went on to flight school in Pensacola, Fla. and Kingsville, Tex. and received his “Wings of Gold” in January 1997.


Matt flew the S-3B Viking as a member of the VS-30 Diamondcutters at NAS Jacksonville, Fla., completing two Mediterranean and Persian Gulf deployments aboard the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower and the USS George Washington. Ashore, Matt became a Pilot Instructor in the S 3B with the VS-41 Shamrocks in San Diego, Calif., where he served as the Head Training LSO and later became the Training Officer.
 

Following active duty, Matt accepted a position with Lockheed Martin in Orlando, Fla., and became the Lead Pilot Systems Engineer for the F 35 Pilot Training System and later the Deputy Program Manager (PM) for F-35 Training System development.
 

Matt left Lockheed in 2008 and became the Director of Business Development for Spyglass Engineering, Inc. In 2012, he deployed to Afghanistan as a Navy Reservist, serving as the Commander of Task Force Copperhead, a counter-IED drone asset embedded with the 82nd Airborne’s 2nd Brigade.

 
Following deployment, Matt moved into the commercial Oil & Gas sector for a short time as a Program Director for Check Six, Inc. and in 2015, he accepted his current position as Executive Vice President at JHT. 


Matt and his wife of 25 years, Kara, live in Windermere, Fla. and have four children. He is also the President of the Central Florida Navy League and a Captain in the Navy Reserves, supporting the Naval Air Systems Command in Patuxent River, Md. He has over 400 carrier landings on 10 different aircraft carriers and nearly 2000 hours of jet flight time in five different aircraft.
